This feature will prove especially helpful for parents of consistently early risers. It can also help teach kids good sleep habits using a time-to-rise cue that lets bright-eyed little ones know when it’s time to get out of bed. The soft light and soothing sounds are designed to help young ones fall asleep and stay that way through the night. This device is a combination night light, sound machine and clock-and it’s made to grow with children from infancy onward. The newest Rest+ builds on the success of the original Rest, with the addition of a back-up battery that means it works even if the power goes out. With its child-focused Rest+, Hatch made our list again. The steps on the Hatch’s nighttime routine can also be set to correspond to various soothing sounds, different colors and brightness of light. Last, but not least, is the nighttime routine function, an integrated timer that you can set to signal when it’s time to wind down and switch from one part of your evening relaxation routine, such as reading, to another, like meditation. This feature is customizable too-you can set white noise to run anywhere from a few minutes, to one minute shy of 24 hours. These can help muffle any ambient noise as you fall asleep or throughout the night. The Hatch Restore 2 has three speakers and a library of 21 white noise tracks, including rain, wind, crickets and the ocean. The Hatch Restore 2 functions best with the accompanying app, but you can turn the alarm on and off via a sliding side button on the device, as well, to make it easy to sleep in on occasion. The sunrise alarm is entirely customizable, from the 10 accompanying sounds to the length of time it takes to fully brighten (which you can set for anything from five to 60 minutes) to the brightness of the light itself. The new version of the alarm comes in a choice of three muted colors and is wrapped in linen, which gives the light a soft, diffused quality. The Hatch brand became virtually synonymous with sunrise alarm clocks with the release of its Restore model in 2020, but it upped the ante with the Restore 2. In fact, I wouldn’t be too surprised if the Spot becomes the best-selling Echo for the holidays.App: Yes | Clock display: Yes | Trial: 60 days Amazon’s going to sell a ton of these come the holiday season. The December ship date is no coincidence, either. As such it will almost certainly hook in those who were interested in the larger product but had misgivings about price. It’s a much better looking product than the Show, in a much more manageable form factor.Īnd at $130, it’s much more affordable than the Show. I have to say, of all of the Echoes announced at today’s event, the Spot is easily the most compelling. At $130, the product could serve as a viable alternative to a bedside alarm clock.Īmazon’s existing security camera compatibility is present here as well, which is an interesting use case in and of itself, offering users a quick glimpse of your front door. Though as with the smaller Echo, the product has audio out and Bluetooth so it can be hooked up to external speakers, if you don’t care for the built-in speakers.Īmazon is clearly hopping the Spot will serve an Echo Dot-like purpose for the product, convincing users to install one in every room of their home - though obviously a $130 price point is far more price prohibitive than the $50 Dot. Like the Dot (and unlike the Show), the Spot doesn’t have much in the way of on-board audio, owing to its palm-sized form factor. But the new Spot comes at the much more affordable price point of $130. As Amazon put it, anything the Show can do, Echo Spot can do, too – including making hands-free calls and video calls. The product features a 2.5-inch display in a half circle design. Echo Show crossed with Echo Dot = Echo Spot. In essence, the product is a tiny Echo Show. Many have tried and failed to bring the world a smart alarm clock (remember Chumby?), but no one has been better positioned than Amazon to deliver on the promise. ![]()
